I think that Butterball is currently looking the best that he has since I've had him. But I realize that I may not be an objective measure of that. He did get too thin this winter; I was so worried about having him on grass I didn't take into account that we were losing most of the grass as we upped his workload. We've gained that back and built on the topline as well. I want to continue developing his hindquarters, but I think we're on the right track.
Do ya'll track changes over time with photos? How about body condition scoring? I honestly think I need to implement a monthly objective BCS score to make sure we're not headed to too fat or too thin. I guess this could be included in the monthly wrap up post as well...
Wow, you can really tell he has developed his thoracic sling! I tend to take a conformation picture when I do my horses' feet. (They're on about a 5 week cycle.) They're already in the crossties, with a fresh trim/reset, and it's the right length of time between photos to get a feel for how they're changing.
ReplyDeleteOh that's an excellent idea!! And my farrier actually even comes at roughly the same time of day every time, so the lighting should be about equal.
DeleteWow! He looks so much better than he did in 2024 (not that he looked bad then). His neck especially has improved. I love his coloring so much! And those DAPPLES!!
ReplyDeleteI also take body photos periodically to check how they're doing. It's easier to evaluate in side by side photos than in person when I see them every day. The long term differences are often really mind blowing.

He looks so good!! THere was a time I tried to be good about getting monthly confo shots but for whatever reason it never really happens lol
ReplyDeleteI felt like I was taking them so regularly and then tried to find pictures and got essentially two where he was properly stood up lol. I'm going to try Leah's approach and take them at every farrier visit.
